Islamophia and Unicorns

In an article entitled "The Politics of Islamophobia," the website Discoverthenetworks.org says that the term "Islamophobia" was invented in the early 1990s by the International Institute for Islamic Thought (IIIT), a front group for the Muslim Brotherhood. The term became an active focus of the Muslim Brotherhood after 9/11 when Islamic lobbyist organizations like the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), an unindicted co-conspirator of the Holy Land Foundation, accused Americans, law-enforcement authorities, etc., of harboring a deep and potentially dangerous prejudice against Muslims. Of course, none of this was ever corroborated by FBI statistics.

Abdur-Rahman Mujhammad, a former member of IIIT, rejected what IIIT stood for and has since revealed that the original intent behind the concept of Islamophobia thus: "This loathsome term is nothing more than a thought-terminating cliché conceived in the bowels of Muslim think tanks for the purpose of beating down critics."

In the blog, newrepublic.com, writer Martin Peretz claims that the term was invented by Iranian fundamentalists at the end of the 1970s and was formed in analogy to the term "xenophobia," and whose purpose was: "to declare Islam inviolate. Whoever crosses the border is deemed a racist." The genius of the term is that it's unspecific so it's unclear as to whether it refers to a belief system, a religion, or those who follow it.

One thing for sure, the term "Islamophobia" serves a number of functions. It denies reality in places like Europe, where Islam is clearly on the offensive. It equates secularism with fundamentalism while it silences Muslims who try to question the Koran, or holy book. Muslims who try to question the misogyny and basic equality between the sexes are unable to voice an opinion as it goes against "the will of Allah." Those Muslims who want to renounce their religion do so at their own peril, as the Koran recommends death to apostates. Gays, lesbians, and atheists are punished if caught, often by the ultimate punishment: stoning. Young girls are stigmatized for not wearing the veil. And Muslims in France, England, Germany, Turkey, and Africa, to name just a few, have no right to religious indifference, to not fast on Ramadan, the right to not believe in God.

In an article by Robert Spencer and David Horowitz, "The Only Thing We have to Fear (Is Islamophobia Itself)," (Front Page Magazine, October 3, 2011), they stated that Islamophobia is a dangerous term in and of itself. They question the notion that fear of Islam is irrational.

At the time of their writing, there had been about 17,800 terrorist attacks carried out by Muslims since 9/11. Fortunately, most of these attacks were unsuccessful, but "If the FBI and law enforcement agencies had not had serious fears of Muslim fanatics, had not been possessed by a species of "Islamophobia," all those would-be terrorist attacks would be successful attacks and carry long lists of dead innocents . . ."

Spencer and Horowitz add: "Should those of us who are infidels-and therefore targets-not be concerned by a religion whose followers regard this Qur'anic incitement as the word of God: "Slay the pagans wherever you find them." (9:5)

So those of you who have been called Islamophobic, you have been called that by those who would rather you believe in unicorns than Islamic jihad.

A New York reporter, is captured by Islamic terrorists who demand the release of three Gitmo prisoners in exchange for him. If the president refuses their demands, they plan to behead the reporter and videotape it for the Internet. But the United States doesn’t give in to terrorist’s demands and he has 24 hours before he is to be executed. The clock is ticking . . .
