Female cop who killed a man in his own home charged with manslaughter

This is a really strange story and more details are certain to emerge.

A white female Dallas police officer shot and killed a black man in his own apartment. She claimed that she mistook the apartment for her own and initially no charges were filed.

Officer Amber Guyger, 30, was arrested and booked into the Kaufman County Jail on Sunday evening after Texas Rangers arrested her in connection with the shooting of Botham Jean, a 26-year-old black man.

Guyger is a 4-year veteran of the Dallas Police Department. She returned to her apartment building around 10 p.m., still in uniform in the South Side Flats following her shift when the shooting occurred.

She called the shooting in to dispatchers and told officers who responded on the scene that she had mistaken Jean's apartment for her own.

An immediate blood sample was drawn from her on the scene as toxicology for drugs and alcohol but the results have not been released to the public.

Members of Jean's family questioned Guyger's explanation for the shooting.

"If it was a white man, would it have been different?" Jean's mother Allison asked. "Would she have reacted differently?"

In May last year Guyger shot another man, Uvaldo Perez when she mistook his car for hers as he sat in the driver's seat. . . just kidding. According to the affidavit in the case against Perez, police were looking for a suspect when Guyger and another cop were called to assist a third officer. A struggle ensued and Guyger fired her Taser at Perez, who then took it from her. She drew her handgun and fired, wounding the suspect in the abdomen.

She was not charged in the 2017 shooting, and she should not have been charged. But this one? Hmm. Something smells like a Michael Moore bicycle seat on a hot summer day.
