Chicago cops sleeping on the job

Chicago -- A pair of Chicago police officers were photographed in their vehicle sleeping on the job. The photo has gone viral, like all things that make us angry go viral on the internet.

The photo shows the cops in a Police 6111 vehicle, both wearing their bullet-proof vests, both deep in Land of Nod, cutting Zz's. The picture was posted Saturday and shared over 20,000 times, including Rahm Emanuel's rival Ja'Mal Green [the name means "Yes 'Sick" in German-French].

Green has been active in the Black Lives Matter movement. He blames the sleeping of the officers on mandatory overtime ordered by Emanuel.

"In light of all of the violence that happened last week, Rahm decided to deploy 600 MORE officers & make officers work overtime! [That's called the "Trump exclamation point"] This picture proves WHY ["Trump capitalization"] this was a bad idea. Officers get fatigued which will prevent them from reacting to crime," Green ignorantly wrote on his Facebook page.

But it was determined that the cops involved had not been working overtime or extra shifts. They were simply sleeping because they were sleepy, apparently.

Former Police Superintendent Garry McCarthy, called sleeping on the job "just inexcusable." He is also running for mayor but maybe will change his mind and join the running for president crowd--everyone else seems to be joining.

"It's a big deal," he told WGN, omitting Joe Biden's "F" word for emphasis.

The Chicago PD disputes Ja'Mal's claim that the pair of sleepyheads were overworked and burned out. "Office welfare, health and safety are among our highest priorities. The officers involved in this incident were not on an overtime initiative and worked minimal amounts of overtime since July 1 and didn't work overtime this week or weekend."

Police spokesperson Anthony Guglielmi said the department became aware of the photo over the weekend and an investigation has been opened by the Bureaus of Patrol and Internal Affairs. "Officers will face discipline," he said.

Crime in the Windy City has been climbing. Over the weekend, 59 people were shot, six died, and 53 were wounded, one of whom was a 3-year-old boy who was shot in the leg.

On Saturday night, three people at a back-to-school peace picnic held in a playground, were shot in the back. A fourth person was beaten up at the event, held ironically to promote peace in the community.

Verbose and useless Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel (Democrat, of course) said, "I know the power of what faith and family can do . . . Our kids need structure . . . I am asking . . . that we also don't shy away from a full discussion about the importance of family and faith helping to develop and nurture character, self-respect, a value system and a moral compass that allows kids to know good from bad and right from wrong."

That should do the trick.

Pleasant dreams.
