POTUS says media is nation's 'biggest enemy,' not NoKo, et al

Washington -- President Trump tweeted on Wednesday that "Fake News" is the "biggest enemy" of the United States, not North Korea, not China, not Russia, and not Iran.

Inaccurate news that paints him in a bad light is more dangerous than any of those countries.

Trump tweeted this just after a few hours upon Air Force One touched down outside Washington.

In February 2017 Trump called several leading news outlets "the enemy of the American people."

I agree that there is a problem with 'fake news' and that there is plenty of political bias in the media that goes against the president. But to call all of the reporting that fails to paint him in glowing terms "fake news," is not only inaccurate, but it is no less "dangerous" to our Constitution.

President Trump tends to speak in hyperbolic terms on almost every topic. But he ought to call out actual fake news and leave the negative news alone.

Upon his return, Trump portrayed his unprecedented meeting with Kim Jong-un as a complete turning point in our relationship with North Korea and the nuclear threat they pose. Trump's claim is that the world is less vulnerable to their nuclear arsenal.

I wish that were true but nothing actually has changed in the hermit kingdom other than an exchange of words and Trump flinging around compliments to one of the most brutal dictators in the world.

North Korea has not disarmed and the destruction of their mountain in which they had conducted underground tests was collapsing and would have likely been destroyed in any case. The destruction of the mountain was a nice gesture, but that's all it was.

In terms of what we know, Trump seems to have given more than he received, just like Obama did in the Iran deal. He offered to end joint military exercises (which he probably shouldn't have referred to them as "war games") with hardly anything in return.

And while Trump is great at marketing a product, his negotiating is only a means to an end--complete verifiable denuclearization of the Korean peninsula.

Praising Kim, an evil dude who has killed members of his own family, starved, tortured and enslaved his people, goes beyond mere negotiating tactics. It gives that scumwafer credibility he doesn't deserve. It reminds me of a salesman who isn't good enough to sell the product but needs to lower the price in order to make the sale.

Trump is correct when he tweeted on his return from Singapore that "the Fake News, especially NBC and CNN," are "fighting hard to downplay the deal with North Korea." He also added: "500 days ago they would have 'begged' for this deal-looked like war would break out."

But when he tweeted "Our Country's biggest enemy is the Fake news so easily promulgated by fools!" that was just a little more hyperbole and when it's overdone, it weakens the truth.

And when he claimed that after his initial rounds of talks with Kim there is "no longer a Nuclear Threat from North Korea" he wasn't speaking the truth because there is no way he could know that with certainty.

I hope he's correct and I hope he succeeds. He's done a lot for the country so far, but he needs to tone down the rhetoric and 'deep-six' the hyperbole.
