POTUS to speak on Afghanistan Monday

President Trump will be addressing the nation Monday night regarding the war in Afghanistan. Mr. Trump might be considering taking a fresh approach to the longest war we've fought.

Trump will "provide an update on the path forward for America's engagement in Afghanistan and South Asia," the White House announced.

He hinted that he and his top generals have agreed on a new strategy for the war after they put their heads together at Camp David retreat.

Trump went to Twitter to make his innermost thoughts known:
"Important day spent at Camp David with our very talented Generals and military leaders. Many decisions made, including on Afghanistan."
Since his inauguration, President Trump has considered several options for our involvement in Afghanistan, from sending more troops and actually treating it as a war, to walking away from it and actually treating is as an Obama strategy if he could get consensus.

The latter move is unlikely, however, since we are trying to deal with Islamic terrorism and that wouldn't be smart as it would only embolden ISIS, the Taliban and other groups like Antifa.

Defense Secretary James Mattis said earlier in the week that the administration was "very close" to finalizing a new approach.
