We need to ban everything that offends a significant number of people in our society. In fact, I believe liberal colleges across the country should offer courses in Offense Theory so that we can learn just how angry we should be over offensive books, titles, ideas, words, etc., etc.
We have banned the "N" word and a whole host of homophobic words and slurs. Why not ban the Koran, the Islamic book allegedly written by Allah with the help of Mohammed who needed the help of a scribe because the prophet of Islam was illiterate and a pedophile? But that's not what this post is about this time.
If we're to ban a team name of Redskins, I think we need to ban books that are clearly anti-Christian and anti-Semitic; specifically, the Koran.
The Koran can be thought of as two books, the early book when Mohammed was in Mecca, and the later or last book, when Mohammed's army had grown from a few hundred to about ten thousand, and this was when he and his troops were in Medina. The chapters, or suras, are not listed chronologically but in terms of length, so sura number 2, for example, actually came during the Medina period when Mohammed was cutting off heads and such. This should sound familiar to anyone who pays attention to world events in Iraq of late.
So, speaking of the Jews, the Koran says: "And they say: Our hearts are covered. Nay. Allah has cursed them on account of their unbelief, so little it is that they believe." (2:88) The "them" being referred to are the Jews. But there's more.
2:98 "Whoever is the enemy of Allah and His angels and His apostles and Jibreel and Meekaeel, so surely Allah is the enemy of the unbelievers."
But I find it offensive for any religion to refute the legitimacy of another religion, but alas, Islam does it: "Ibrahim was not a Jew nor a Christian but he was (an) upright (man), a Muslim, and he was not one of the polytheists." 3:67. As you may know, Ibrahim was Abraham and was born several thousand years before Islam became a religion. And Abe was a Jew--I know, I was invited to his bar mitzvah.
One of my all-time favorite suras is 5:51 "O you who believe! do not take Jews and the Christians for friends; they are friends of each other, and whoever amongst you takes them for a friend, then surely he is one of them; surely Allah does not guide the unjust people."
And I am very offended by the Koran where it claims that Muslims gave the Jews their holy scripture, the Torah (2:65), and gave Mary, the mother of Jesus, "Clear (Signs) and strengthened him with the holy spirit" (2:87). First of all, I find it very offensive the Koran did not capitalize "him" when referring to Jesus, like they capitalize "Him" when they refer to Allah. I also find it offensive that Islam takes credit for both the Jews and Christians while actually screwing up time lines of history and changing Judeo-Christian scripture.
"Taste ye Jews, the punishment of burning" (3:18). How sweet the holy Koran and how tolerant. Is it any wonder at all why Islam targets Jews and Christians? Is it any wonder why the Palestinians want to destroy Israel, their "Little Satan" and then destroy us, the "Big Satan?" The hatred is in the Koran and I think we Christians and Jews need to take a stand and get it banned. In fact, that might work as a slogan: "Take a stand and get it banned!"
