NEW YORK CITY — The feds are sniffing around two Manhattan hotels turned migrant crash pads, and they’ve got a criminal investigation on their hands. Word on the street, via FOX5 NY, is the Justice Department’s digging into some shady federal immigration law violation tied to the whole mess.
They’re shaking down the Roosevelt Hotel and Stewart Hotel with subpoenas, demanding names, IDs, and who’s footing the bill for the migrants bunking there, per CBS News. And then there’s the Hotel Chandler—subpoenaed too, even though it’s slumming it as a homeless joint, not a migrant flophouse. Southern District of New York’s pulling the strings on this one, reports say.
The Roosevelt’s been Midtown’s migrant HQ for three years—biggest shelter and intake spot in the city. Back in February, whispers started it’s winding down. Mayor Eric Adams bragged about wrestling the migrant flood—232,000 rolled in over three years, but now it’s just 350 stragglers a week, down from a chaotic 4,000.

Deputy Mayor for Communications Fabien Levy told Patch there’s no “official last day” for the Roosevelt gig. But THE CITY’s got the scoop—it’s lights out by June’s end.
