New York will put white people at the back of the proverbial COVID vaccine bus

Racism and virtue signaling are alive and well in New York State as the state government has decided to use race, rather than medical need, decide who gets at the front of the COVID-19 vaccine line.

If you are White, over 65, suffer from diabetes or other risk factor, you will not be receiving your vaccination or other treatments before, say, a 13-year-old Black, or Hispanic, or Asian kid because you are of the wrong skin color. The medical rationale for this type of prioritization is technically known as racism. All you need to do is switch the word "white" with "Black" or any of the other groups.

New York’s Department of Health released a document detailing their racist plan to distribute the treatments, such as monoclonal antibody treatment and antiviral pills to non-White people. 

The plan includes a section on eligibility for the scarce antiviral pills that people must meet to receive the treatment, including a line stating a person needs to have "a medical condition or other factors that increase their risk for severe illness."

One such "risk factor" is being a race or ethnicity that is not White due to "longstanding systemic health and social inequities." 

"Non-white race or Hispanic/Latino ethnicity should be considered a risk factor, as longstanding systemic health and social inequities have contributed to an increased risk of severe illness and death from COVID-19," the memo reads. 

But taken individually on a case-by-case basis, it's risk factors that determine risk and skin color is not one of them. This is racism pure and simple.
