Dad pleads guilty to killing his 5-year-old son over cheesecake incident

An obviously mentally ill Wisconsin father who fatally punched his 5-year-old boy over a slice of cheesecake, pleaded guilty and was convicted of homicide.

Following two days of testimony from state witnesses, Travis Stackhouse pleaded guilty to second-degree reckless homicide, child abuse, and child neglect and faces up to 37 years in prison.

The 30-year-old Stackhouse now faces up to 37 years behind bars.

Prosecutors said that he was angry because his children were eating the cheesecake that was supposed to be his for Father's Day earlier in the week. He was angry that he'd only eaten one measly piece of the delicious celebratory delight. The dead boy's dad admitted to striking the child with the back of his hand, but his hand was  fitted with metal inside due to surgery.

After he hit the boy, Stackhouse left the house and went to a bar with friends knocking down a few until about 2 a.m. When he got home, his girlfriend and mother of the boy called 911. Paramedics responded to the home in the 2600 block of West Ruby Avenue and tried unsuccessfully to revive the boy. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

According to the Milwaukee County Medical Examiner’s Office, the boy suffered a ruptured stomach, bruised kidneys, and a torn adrenal gland and died due to blunt force trauma to his abdomen.

That doesn't sound like the back of anybody's hand--it sounds more like a punch.

A criminal complaint from 2019 reportedly said the child was found with bruising on his eyes, a cut on his lip, and a laceration on his sternum.

So Travis Stackhouse will likely go to hell and hopefully will find an abusive cell mate proportional in size to him as he was to his dead child.

“He had three healing cuts to his back. His caretakers reported he’d fallen down the stairs, but police did not believe the injuries were consistent with an incident like that,” Fox 6 reported at the time.

So the child was also abused before the murder--no surprise there.

A sentencing hearing is set to take place on June 29, according to CBS 58.
