Nikki Haley breaks with Trump: "We should have never followed him"

Former U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations, Nikki Haley, was interviewed by Politico in which she said that the former President "let us down." 

Haley explained that "He [Trump] went down a path he shouldn't have, and we shouldn't have followed him, and we shouldn't have listened to him. And we cant let that ever happen again."

This is coming from someone who initially referred to former President Trump as her "friend."

Haley's anger comes from Trump's refusal to concede the 2020 election to Joe Biden, and she told Politico that she hasn't spoken to Trump since the January 6 riot. She also added that much of her anger comes from Trump's negative comments about former VP Mike Pence.

“When I tell you I’m angry, it’s an understatement,” Haley said. “Mike has been nothing but loyal to that man. He’s been nothing but a good friend of that man. … I am so disappointed in the fact that [despite] the loyalty and friendship he had with Mike Pence, that he would do that to him. Like, I’m disgusted by it.”

As to what she thought of the ongoing impeachment proceedings, Haley said that it was a  “waste of time,” adding that Trump will never run for office again.

“I don’t think he’s going to be in the picture,” she said. “I don’t think he can. He’s fallen so far.”

Politico claims Haley is positioning herself for a 2024 presidential run. The prediction is likely based on the fact that she recently announced a new political action committee named after her Stand for America advocacy group.

According to Haley, Trump had radically changed toward the end of his term in office.

Now she asks the Republican Party to go forward, to move on from Trump and return to being a "good, valuable, effective party."

“I mean, I’m deeply disturbed by what’s happened to him,” she said.
