Stefanik says Cuomo implicated in "criminal scandal" over COVID nursing home deaths

Rep. Elise Stefanik (R-NY) said that Gov. Andrew Cuomo (D-NY) was implicated in a "criminal corruption scandal" regarding New York's reported undercounting of coronavirus deaths in the state's nursing homes.

Stefanik spoke on Fox News' "The Story" with Martha MacCallum saying that New York lawmakers must hold Cuomo accountable for the state's serious underreporting of their death count in nursing homes.

Never admitting blame or responsibility when he has screwed the pooch, Cuomo defended his policy by insisting he followed federal guidelines at the time. If that was true, then why were other states not doing what Cuomo mandated: requiring nursing homes to take back COVID-positive patients from hospitals?

The fact is, the guidelines specifically required that nursing homes meet strict standards and have special equipment before being allowed to take back COVID residents. Cuomo failed to take the guidelines seriously.

"This is the governor who has pointed fingers at everyone. He's pointed fingers at President Trump. He's pointed fingers at the seniors themselves, at the nursing homes, basically blaming everyone but himself," Stefanik said.

Cuomo is a garbage governor, a liar and an incompetent leader, in the opinion of many who get their news from more than leftist sources.

Stefanik went after the media and CNN in particular for its coverage of the failed governor, whose brother Chris "Fredo" Cuomo is a primetime anchor of a far-left show. On it, Fredo did an insensitive comedy act with his brother in the middle of the pandemic.

"It is a disgrace that CNN allows Chris Cuomo to just invite his brother and do those ridiculous fawning interviews. It’s an embarrassment now to the media," she said, not realizing that for CNN to be embarrassed, they need to have a modicum of self-awareness.

Stefanik said in the interview:
"This is the governor who has pointed fingers at everyone. He's pointed fingers at President Trump. He's pointed fingers at the seniors themselves, at the nursing homes, basically blaming everyone but himself. In terms of following federal guidance, it is very clear that Governor Cuomo made the decision to put forth his executive order on March 25 requiring nursing homes to accept positive COVID patients, regardless of their ability to isolate those patients and have proper PPE ...
"My thoughts are this governor has avoided the truth for months and months and months. The reason why this is a criminal corruption scandal and not just a nursing home scandal is that they have known for months what the true count of deaths in nursing homes [was], whether it was in a hospital from a nursing home, or an individual who passed away in the nursing home and they have withheld that from the public ...There needs to be subpoenas issued immediately. Both Democrats and Republicans in the State Senate and State Assembly have agreed to that ..."

Let's not forget how Cuomo and New Jersey's Governor Murphy both complimented then President Trump for the federal assistance they received from his administration. New York, for example, received an entire hospital ship and respirators that ended up in excess or was underused by Cuomo.

But who are we kidding? These people are rarely held accountable for what should be described as criminal behavior.
