Israeli airstrikes destroys Iranian weapons depots in Syria

Israel targeted Iranian weapons stores in Syria and were successful in taking out their targets. Massive airstrikes killed at least 40 people, 31 who belonging to “loyal militias of Iranian nationalities other than Syria,” as well as nine Syrians. Many others were injured in the strategic, pinpoint attacks in weapons facilities in eastern Syria along the Iraqi border.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) said that in the attacks that occurred just after midnight and extended from the city of Al-Zour to the Syrian-Iraqi border. It targeted "ammunition and weapons depots for the regime forces, the Lebanese Hezbollah, Iranian forces and militias loyal to it."

According to the Associated Press and quoting a senior U.S. intelligence official, the U.S. supplied Israel with the intelligence for the airstrikes that “targeted a series of warehouses in Syria that were being used in a pipeline to store and stage Iranian weapons.”

The official said that Secretary of State Mike Pompeo met with the head of Israel's Mossad agency Yossi Cohen, to discuss the logistics of the strike, adding that the warehouses being targeted also were used as a pipeline for components that were to be used in Iran's nuclear program. The clandestine meeting took place at a cafe in Washington, D.C.

The airstrikes targeted facilities in the area of the city of Deir Ezzor, as well as warehouses of ammunition and weapons in the Albu Kamal desert and in the Al-Mayadeen desert, according to the SOHR. They also said that “this Israeli targeting is the most intense of its kind on Syrian territory, while no response or attempt to confront the Israeli bombing was monitored by the [Syrian] regime’s air defenses.”

According to the SOHR, the city Deir Ezzor are under Russian control.

We are fortunate to have Israel as an ally as they are fortunate to have us. Imagine what would happen if Iran goes nuclear.
