Miami Beach -- Two gay Chicago-area Catholic priests were charged Monday with Lewd and Lascivious behavior and Indecent Exposure after they were caught performing a sexual act in a parked car on a Miami Beach street. The car windows weren't even tinted.
Miami Beach Police said Fr. Diego Berrio, 39, and Fr. Edwin Giraldo Cortez (no relation to Alexandria Googly-Eyes-Ocasio-Cortez) were going at it in the front seat. They were so busy performing an oral sex act on each other that they weren't aware of the police standing next to the car when they arrived.
Police got a 911 call about a lewd and lascivious incident in progress in the 1300 block of Ocean Drive around 3:20 p.m. When they arrived, the police report states, the Catholic priests were performing sex acts on each other "in full view of the public passing by on Ocean Drive and the sidewalk."
"Yesterday, we received a call indicating that two men were performing a sex act inside of a car. This is in broad daylight, 13th Street and Ocean Drive There are no tints on the window," Miami Beach Police spokesman Ernesto Rodriguez explained.
When police arrived, they were still going at it, too busy to notice the cops standing there.
"We observed the two males performing the sex act, the officer had to tap on the window to get their attention," Rodriguez said.
Both priests were placed under arrest with no incident.
The arrest reports state that both priests are from Arlington Heights, Illinois, a suburb of Chicago. The address given was the Mission San Juan Diego Parish in Arlington Heights.
"Their profession is irrelevant, in fact, our trouble with this is that this is broad daylight for anyone to see including children. There's a time and a place for everything and this certainly was not the time and place," Rodriguez said.
There is a children's playground near the intersection of 13th and Ocean Drive.
Both priests were charged with misdemeanors of Lewd and Lascivious Behavior and Giraldo Cortez was also charged with Indecent Exposure.
The Archdiocese of Chicago released a statement late Tuesday regarding the two priests:
Now if only the pope would do something--resign.
It is not the Catholic religion that is guilty and this should not dissuade Catholics to leave the Church--it is the human beings in the Church who have no business in the positions they hold and the trusts they have shattered.

"We were informed this morning that Rev. Diego Berrio, pastor of Misión San Juan Diego in Arlington Heights, Ill., and Rev. Edwin Giraldo Cortes, an extern priest from Soacha, Colombia who served at St. Aloysius Parish in Chicago for one month, August 1 to August 31, 2018, were arrested in Miami on September 3, 2018.
"Cardinal Blase J. Cupich, archbishop of Chicago, has removed Fr. Berrio from ministry and withdrawn his faculties to minister in the Archdiocese of Chicago, effective immediately. The archdiocese will appoint an administrator for the Misión San Juan Diego as soon as possible.
"Archdiocese representatives have been in contact with Fr. Cortes' home diocese of Soacha, Colombia and informed them that Fr. Cortes will not be granted additional faculties to minister in the Archdiocese of Chicago.
"It is our responsibility to ensure those who serve our people are fit for ministry. We take this matter very seriously and will provide updates as they become available."
