DNC co-chair Keith Ellison accused of abuse by ex-girlfriend

Democratic National Committee co-chair Rep. Keith Ellison (D-MN) has been accused of emotional and physical abuse by an ex-girlfriend, Karen Monahan.

The allegations came to light Saturday night after Monahan's son, Austin Monahan, 25, alleged in a Facebook post that he saw text messages threatening his mother and a video of Ellison screaming obscenities at her as he dragged her from a bed by her feet, the Associated Press reported.

Ellison denied the allegations Sunday in a brief statement: "I never behaved in this way."

Austin went on: "My brother and I watched our mom come out of pure hell after getting out of her relationship with Keith Ellison."

Karen Monahan said the Austin's post was truthful.

"Every statement he made was true. @keithelllison, you know you did that to me," she tweeted.

The alleged victim didn't respond to a request from the AP asking for copies of the video or text messages.

"Karen and I were in a long-term relationship which ended in 2016, and I still care deeply for her well-being," Ellison said. "This video does not exist because I never behaved in this way, and any characterization otherwise is false."

As much as I dislike the Louis Farrakhan-loving Ellison, he should be considered innocent until proven guilty.

A little bit about Ellison:

He grew up in Detroit, was raised Catholic, converted to Islam at the age of 19, and married his high school sweetheart, Kim, in 1987. They moved to Minneapolis where he attended the U. of Minnesota Law School and graduated in 1990.

It isn't clear if she paid his way through school, but they have four children and divorced in 2012.

While in law school, Ellison wrote several articles in support of the anti-Semite, and flaming racist, Louis Farrakhan.

Ellison posted photos on his Twitter account showing him posing with Monahan which only proves they knew each other.

And while a person is considered innocent until proven otherwise, Democrats such as Hillary Clinton, feel that women should be believed, unless those women have been sexually assaulted or harassed by her husband.

Of course, if there are records of texts and video, they should be turned over to law enforcement.
