At least 26 dead, and 20 wounded

At least 20 people are feared dead and about the same number wounded in the small Texas town of Sutherland Springs 30 miles from San Antonio, on Sunday.

The mass murders occurred at First Baptist Church, which usually has about 50 church members at the service. If the number of dead is confirmed, this will be the deadliest massacre at a church in modern U.S. history.

The motive at this time is unknown but the gunman has been shot and killed by police.

Wilson County Commissioner Larry Wiley told Fox News that an emergency responder reported between 20 and 24 people had been killed and 20 were wounded when a man walked into the church around 11:30 a.m. local time on Sunday and began shooting at the congregation.

"It's horrible," Wiley said. "It appears someone walked in and started shooting."

The church's pastor, Frank Pomeroy, said his 14-year-old daughter was killed in the shooting, as reported by ABC News.

A spokesperson for Connally Memorial Medical Center in Floresville, Megan Posey, said "We have accepted a multiple number of patients from the shooting," but didn't specify a number. The Medical Center is located 15 miles from the scene of the slaughter.

It was reported by Fox News that a 2-year-old was also struck by a bullet.

Some of the victims were transported to Brooke Army Medical Center in San Antonio.

The FBI is also on the scene.

According to Wiley, the shooter was killed about five miles away in Guadalupe County after being cornered by law enforcement.

Sutherland Springs is a small town of about 400 people. Most know each other so it stands to reason that the entire town will be devastated and will require intervention to deal with post traumatic stress that will undoubtedly follow in the next few days.

President Trump is traveling in Asia and tweeted: "May God be w/the people of Sutherland Springs, Texas. The FBI & law enforcement are on the scene. I am monitoring the situation from Japan."

Of course some politicians followed up with obvious statements meant to console the inconsolable. And you know the liberals will be politicizing this horrible massacre and call for more gun control--right after they accused President Trump of politicizing the recent terrorist truck attack in lower Manhattan by his wanting to close the Diversity Visa Program.

Sadly, it's all politics.
