This was the largest repatriation of migrants in over a year.
The Coast Guard cutter came upon the overloaded boat about 22 miles south of Great Inagua, Bahamas, on Tuesday. The Coast Guard gave the migrants food, water and medical treatment before returning them to Cap-Haitien, Haiti, on Wednesday.
Groans of "Oh maaann," could be heard from migrants who thought they'd be making it to America but no such illegal luck would be theirs this time.
The Coast Guard reported that 1,028 migrants have been caught attempting to illegally enter the United States via the Florida Straits, Atlantic and Caribbean Sea since October 1st.
And those are only the ones who were caught.
