Obama admin releases another Gitmo jihadist

A Yemeni prisoner at Gitmo has been released and sent to Cape Verde in West Africa for resettlement.

Announced Sunday, the release of Shawqi Awad Balzuhair (aka "A Wad of Hairy Balz") lowers the prison population at our base in Cuba to 59. Of the remaining jihadists still there for killing or attempting to kill infidels, 20 of them are approved for release.

"We gotta stop puttin' folks in jail just because they're not like you or me," President Obama wanted to say.

Balzuhair has been at Guantanamo without charge since October 2002 after he was captured along with a gaggle of other suspected Al Qaeda Islamists in Karachi, Pakistan. A U.S. government review board determined he was a "low-life level militant" and approved his release in 2016.

The U.S. does not return prisoners to Yemen because the Islamists can't get themselves to stop fighting wherever they go or live and so, there's a civil war going on as usual. Cape Verde accepted him and another prisoner back in 2010.

If all goes according to plan, "A Wad of Hairy Balz" will not immediately return to the jihad.
