Fake News Guru Speaks Out Against Fake News

NOT THE ONION -- Brian Williams, the former NBC anchor who was fired for "fake news" is upset about the spread of "fake news." Obviously, he thought he had the market cornered.

Williams was told to take six months vacation prior to his being removed from his "Nightly News" gig on NBC. He is now very upset about a so-called epidemic of "fake news" and spoke about the 'problem' on his MSNBC cable show this week.

"Fake news played a role in this election and continues to find a wide audience," he complained petulantly on "The 11th Hour with Brian Williams." (They should have named the show "The 11th Hour with Lyin' Brian" but that would have been redundant.)

Williams addressed President-elect Trump's national security adviser pick, Lt. Gen. Michael T. Flynn (ret) and his son, Michael G. Flynn, for spreading lies.

"Flynn's son was fired by the Trump transition team today for passing on fake news stories via Twitter," Lyin' Brian said. "But his dad, the retired Army three-star general, has passed on some gems himself.

"Here are a few: [Hillary] Clinton is involved with child sex-trafficking and has secretly waged war on the Catholic Church, as well as charges that the president is a jihadi who laundered money for Muslim terrorists."

Everyone knows that if Hillary Clinton was involved with anything having to do with sex-trafficking, it would have involved Bill and not children. Insofar as Obama being a jihadi, that is probably not true. However, there is little doubt that Obama has a soft spot in his heart for the Muslim "Call to Prayer" and for the religion in general.

Williams is certainly not the poster boy for honest journalism. Claiming to have been aboard a chopper that was hit by enemy fire in Iraq, a claim he made in February 2015, got him in trouble with the network.

The story is that Williams and his NBC team were reporting from Iraq in 2003. Three Chinook helicopters came under fire but Williams was an hour behind them in a totally different chopper.  His excuse: "I don't know what screwed up in my mind that caused me to conflate ne aircraft with another," he told Stars and Stripes news after the helicopter crew came forward and called him out on his lie.

Nobody who has ever been under fire forgets that moment. To use a lie to cover another lie is disgusting and an act of stolen valor. Hillary Clinton told a similar lie when she "came under  sniper fire " in Bosnia.

Williams also told a fake news story in his Hurricane Katrina coverage in New Orleans back in 2005, claiming he could see bodies floating on the flood waters from his hotel room in the French Quarter.

Unfortunately for him, he was once again caught reporting fake news.

The New Orleans Advocate reported that the area he was in was essentially spared in the catastrophe and experienced little flooding. There could be no bodies floating in the waters because there were no flooded waters where he was staying.

NBC had no comment when asked about Williams' latest remarks about fake news.

Oh, the audacity of dope.
