The shooter, identified as Billy Jones, is believed to be barricaded inside his home and a large and heavily armed contingent of police is staged outside his residence.
The wounded deputy is listed in critical condition and is at Sparks Hospital in Fort Smith.
The alleged shooter, Jones, was being served a warrant at his home around 7:20 a.m. He is known to have hatred toward law enforcement officers.
Police spokesman, Philip Pevehouse, told The Arkansas Democrat-Gazette "We believe him to be holed up currently."
State police and three local police departments responded to the call of "Officers down." Two police helicopters have been sent to the scene and a SWAT team is on site.
According to officials, the suspect was carrying a semi-automatic weapon which will predictably bring out a load of liberals calling for more aggressive gun control, as if the weapon, not the person, is the problem.
Black Lives Matter was not available for comment, nor was Hillary Clinton who refuses to seek the endorsement of police unions.
