Nothing to fear but shadow itself

Professor Emeritus Daniel S. Hamermesh of Texas University has decided not to return next fall because he's afraid of the school's new campus carry law that makes it legal for some residents to carry concealed weapons into the classroom.

Hamermesh probably knows he has lots of enemies because the only reason one has to be afraid of guns is when they're pointed in your direction.

According to the Austin American-Statesman, this frightened professor has taught Introductory Microeconomics for more than  20 years.

Hamermesh worries that, with his classes so large, he would not be able to diagnose mentally ill students, in spite of the fact that he has no experience in the field of psychology but his bartender convinced him that anyone can do it.

"With a huge group of students my perception is that the risk that a disgruntled student might bring a gun into the classroom and start shooting at me has been substantially enhanced by the concealed-carry law," he wrote in a shaking hand to the DailyTexan, the school's student paper.

"Out of self-protection I have chosen to spend part of next Fall at the University of Sydney, where, among other things, this risk seems lower."

Hamermesh, you may recall, has an old YouTube video depicting another one of his anxieties.
