The U.S. evacuated its diplomats from Libya on Saturday and sent them to nearby Tunisia. They were escorted by U.S. military after fighting in Tripoli intensified and security circled the drain. Rival militias engaged in battle and the State Department finally made the right move. In fact, for the first time in Obama's presidency, I am proud of our State Department.
Big-haired Marie Harf, State Department coed and spokesperson said, "Due to the ongoing violence resulting from clashes between Libyan militias in the immediate vicinity of the U.S. Embassy in Tripoli, we have temporarily relocated all of our personnel out of Libya."
This withdrawal marks the first time the Obama administration has acted on behalf of the safety of American personnel and is likely to fetch our president his second Nobel Peace Prize (if I know anything about leftist organizations like the Nobel committee). Of course, it was learned that the Pentagon had been begging the State Department to leave the Libyan post weeks ago, but President Obama had other pressing priorities, such as fund raising and golf, before he was ready to spring into decisive action.
"Securing our facilities and ensuring the safety of our personnel are top department priorities, and we did not make this decision lightly," Harf huffed. "Security has to come first," she added without also saying, "this time."
Gee, if "ensuring the safety of our personnel are top department priorities," why did it take so long? It was explained as a "no brainer," but I didn't know they meant it literally.
