Chuckles HaHaHagel held a press conference today in which he outlined a suicidal strategy of cutting the military every which way but loose. The numbers he is proposing reflect the lowest number of troops since pre-World War Two, and he plans to cut back on our ships and aircraft as well.
This strategy shows the same insight the Obama administration has shown with the economy in general, and will show the world that the United States means it when it says, "I'm a little peeved at you, Mr. Putin and Mr. Assad. We need to talk at your earliest convenience, if it isn't too much trouble."
Hagel is suggesting we cut our present military from 520,000 troops to 490,000 and then by 2016 to 450,000. That is about the same size army as Columbia or Turkey. He also wants to ensure that those who would have planned to make the military a career change their mind, by keeping enlisted salaries at the poverty level, freeze wages of high ranking officers, and screw around with healthcare co-pays and benefits.
Just days ago Obama said that the time of austerity is over--he definitely wasn't speaking about the military. Obama sees no problem investing in loser companies like Solyndra, but refuses to give our military what they need to keep our country safe.
If you think Ronald Reagan's notion of peace through strength was wrong, and our enemies will respect us for using diplomacy instead of strength, then I suggest you get your head out of the sand, or that other place you probably have it stuck up in, and get real. Our enemies only respect strength and laugh at weakness. They are wetting their burkas and salwaar kamese over Obama and his lines in the sand.
It's time for all voters to tell their local and state politicians that we need a strong military, and Chuck Hagel is not being honest with us anymore than Susan Rice was back in 2012.
