Obama's Deal with Putin

Where are these antiwar celebs
President Obama made it sound like this whole Syrian chemical weapons thing, where he got Putin on board to oversee their turnover, was his idea. He called it [their] "new willingness to join the international community in pushing Syria to give up its chemical weapons," and added, "[I] also asked Congress to postpone a vote on the use of military force to pursue a diplomatic path, that's what we're doing." Wrong and wrong again. Putin jumped in when Kerry made his Bidenesque gaffe of agreeing that the US would not strike Syria if they gave up their chemical weapons. Then Putin took it back when Obama didn't agree to take a military strike off the table. Then Obama walked back the idea of a congressional vote on the idea because it was clear that he would lose miserably on that vote because the United States does not want to intervene. We had the chance to do something about Assad killing his people two years ago but Obama did nothing. He allowed those children to "die in their beds," when the rockets fell and the bullets flew. If this was a moral issue for him now, why wasn't it a moral issue for him back then?

So let's pretend Obama gets his way with the Assad regime and even makes it look like he's the one calling the shots, which is ridiculous to imagine, but what the hell. The question now remains will Assad actually give up all of his chemical weapons or will he just make a show of giving them up and keep a stockpile for himself, just for a rainy day? Does it even make sense for him to do that while the US is supplying the rebels with weapons? And is there a chance that the rebels have their own chemical weapons that Assad is aware of and must counter with his own supply?

How naive of Obama to think that Assad and Putin are going to be above board on giving up those chemical weapons. It seems that Obama is our modern day Chamberlain in spite of him using  Ronald Reagan's words to "verify, verify." The only thing we Americans can verify is that Obama has clearly weakened us in the Middle East, allowed Russia to grow stronger and more influential there, allowed Egypt to have the Muslim Brotherhood come to power, only to be thrown out by the military on the will of the majority, and even had the Muslim Brotherhood visit the White House.

Who would have thought that twelve years after the first 911, and one year after the second, we would have a president that supports the same people that caused both?

My latest novel, Jihad Joe, is about Islamic terrorism and suspense.  In it I challenge the precepts of the religion through my protagonist, Zed Nill, a journalist, captured by terrorists and who is destined to be killed if the American President refuses to release three Gitmo prisoners.  Of course, American policy demands we never give in to terrorists, and for Zed, the clock is ticking.
