Trump demands FBI retain all DEI records from the closed office

President-elect [but not for long] Donald Trump demanded on Thursday evening that the FBI keep all records from the diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) office that was shut down last month.

The FBI quietly closed its Office of Diversity and Inclusion last month, just before Trump’s inauguration. This happened because Trump has promised to reduce DEI efforts in the federal government, similar to what many companies have done in the last year.

“We demand that the FBI preserve and retain all records, documents, and information on the now closing DEI Office—Never should have been opened and, if it was, should have closed long ago,” Trump wrote on social media. “Why is it that they’re closing one day before the Inauguration of a new Administration? The reason is, CORRUPTION!”

The FBI stated that the office was closed last month but didn't explain why.

Senator Marsha Blackburn (R-TN) criticized the FBI's DEI focus recently, saying it prioritizes the wrong things. “I am deeply concerned that—under your leadership—the Bureau has prioritized Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) initiatives over its core mission of protecting the American people,” Blackburn wrote in a letter this month.

Former FBI special agent Nicole Parker criticized the FBI's focus on social justice, stating, “constant push for social justice weaponization at the FBI whose top priorities are to protect the American people and uphold the constitution.”

The FBI still mentions the Office of Diversity and Inclusion on its website, stating its mission is to “provide guidance and implement programs that promote a diverse and inclusive workplace that allows all employees to succeed and advance.”

“The FBI’s efforts to diversify are crucial to creating an inclusive workforce and to being increasingly effective and efficient in our investigations and keeping the American public safe,” said Scott McMillion, the FBI’s first Chief Diversity Officer, on the site.

The website also promotes joining employee resource groups which, according to The Daily Wire, are used to push left-wing agendas. It's not clear if these groups will continue now that the DEI office is closed.

Despite this closure, many federal agencies continue to push DEI agendas, with around 500 actions taken under the Biden administration to promote diversity. Once Trump is inaugurated, he and his team will have the chance to remove these "woke" officials and dismantle the DEI initiatives in government and the military.
