Omar's comments implied that a prominent pro-Israel lobby compensated lawmakers for their support of the Jewish state, but insisted on what she called "the problematic role of lobbyists in our politics."
"Anti-Semitism is real and I am grateful for Jewish allies and colleagues who are educating me on the painful history of anti-Semitic tropes," Omar said, sounding a hell of a lot like Virginia Gov. Ralph Northam (D) who apologize for wearing blackface or dressing in a KKK robe back in the 1980s in his college yearbook from medical school.
In a statement posted to Twitter, Omar tweeted:
"My intention is never to offend my constituents or Jewish Americans as a whole. We have to always be willing to step back and think through criticism, just as I expect people to hear me when others attack my for my identity. This is why I unequivocally apologize."But she wasn't able to let it rest at that point adding, "At the same time. I reaffirm the problematic role of lobbyists in our politics, whether it be AIPAC, the NRA or the fossil fuel industry. It's gone on too long and we must be willing to address it."
Omar has said and tweeted many anti-Semitic statements in the past:
To read more about Omar, you might want to check out City Journal in a post by Scott Johnson. For one thing, Johnson discusses her lack of gratitude to the United States after coming here as a 7-year-old.
But Omar's "apology" requires scare quotes because it wasn't an apology at all. Look below to read what she said:
It has also been learned that House Speaker Nancy Pelosi has also demanded Omar apologize for her remarks, and this may have been the impetus for the apology because everyone knows, as her own daughter said of the Speaker, which I paraphrase: "She can cut you and you won't even know you're bleeding."
There will likely be more to follow on this story.
