BREAKING: Jussie Smollett and others may have a lot of 'splainin' to do

Earl Gibson III/Getty Images
Chicago -- Cook County Judge Michael Toomin appointed a special prosecutor, former U.S. Attorney Dan Webb on Friday to head the investigation into the handling of the Jussie Smollett fake racism case.

Webb will specifically investigate the 16 criminal charges against the gay actor that were dropped and can reinstate the charges and possible add additional charges against Smollett.

"Webb gained prominence for his lead role during the Operation Greylord investigations into judicial corruption in Cook County," as reported by Fox 32. "He served as special counsel in the Iran-Contra affair and was previously appointed by Judge Toomin in the death of David Koschman."

Webb told reporters on Friday: "I don't know where this case is going. The facts will take me where they take me." Or, in the words of the immortal Doris Day, "que sera, sera."

Ironically but not surprisingly, Cook County leftists endorse Kim Foxx for re-election, which should tell you all you need to know about Chicago Democrats.

Toomin ruled that a special prosecutor was needed in the case because "Cook County State's Attorney Kim Foxx had no authority to hand [the case] off to her top deputy after announcing she recused herself," CBS News Chicago reported. Ironically, Foxx has been given

"Foxx had been in contact with a Smollett relative and was approached by former first lady Michelle Obama's one-time chief of staff on behalf of Smollett's family," Fox 6 reported. "Foxx also publicly wondered if her being black has anything to do with the criticism she has received."

Yes, cry racism whenever your integrity or competence is in question. That should further the case for racial equality via the racism of lower expectations.

Smollett claimed to police on January 29, that he was walking home from a Subway fast food restaurant very late at night, or very early in the morning, when two masked men attacked him and shouted racist and homophobic slurs at him. Smollett further alleged that one of the attackers told him he was in "MAGA country."

Chicago. MAGA country? Two masked men out at 2:30 a.m. with rope and red hats [they couldn't get MAGA hats in Chicago] yelling "this is MAGA country!" Sure. Sounds as believable as someone claiming to see Jerry Nadler in a MAGA hat walking down Broadway.

Weeks later, authorities claimed that Smollett paid two black friends $3,500 to help him stage the attack on himself because he was not satisfied with earning up to $125,000 per episode of a TV show on which he starred that few people watched.

And the idiot Smollett paid by the friends by personal check. All he needed to do for the cherry on top was to put in the "Memo" section of the check "For pretending to attack me while yelling racial slurs."

In June, after Toomin ruled that a special prosecutor would be appointed in the case, the Chicago Police Department doubled down on its claim that Smollett "fabricated" the "incident."

Anthony Guglielmi, chief communications officer for the Chicago Police Department, tweeted at the time: "We stand firmly behind the work of detectives in investigating the fabricated incident reported by Jussie Smollett & #ChicagoPolice will fully cooperate with the court appointed special prosecutor."

Chicago cops release Jussie Smollett case docs

Just one week after an Illinois judge ordered "Empire actor Jussie Smollett's criminal case file to be unsealed, Chicago PD released the documents, which contained over 460 pages of case reports, arrest files and other supplementary files, according to Anthony Guglielmi, a Chicago PD spokesman.

There were over 300 pages of supplementary materials such as detective notes, ancillary material and subpoena records. By next week, this hopefully will be delivered.

"The final release will be pertinent video files that require a heavy amount of digital redaction for things like license plates of unrelated vehicles and the blurring of faces of individuals not involved in the criminal investigation," Guglielmi explained to Fox News. "We hope to have that completed by the week after next."

In early May, Cook County Judge Steven Watkins, who presided over a March hearing where prosecutors dismissed the charges with little explanation, ordered records in the controversial case be made public.

Smollett made national headlines in January when he filed what is believed by many to be a false police report alleging that two masked men attacked him, put a rope around his neck and poured bleach on him. There were more holes in that story than Michael Moore's skivvies after a meal of cabbage and beans.

Smollett, who is black and openly homosexual, claimed the men, in the wee hours of the morning, during a polar vortex, made racist and homophobic comments and  yelled “This is MAGA country," the allegedly shouted in Chicago, a city with half as many Trump voters as wild polar bears.

After an intense investigation, police decided Smollett staged the entire racist episode to drum up publicity for his career. Smollett has strongly denied the accusations because to admit to them would end his career.

After the charges were dropped, the court approved a request by Smollett's lawyer to seal the case in order to keep the evidence from further scrutiny.

The Associated Press and former newspaper The New York Times, asked the judge to reverse the decision, arguing there was a need for further transparency as to why prosecutors suddenly decided to abandon charges in spite of a boatload of evidence that Smollett was full of bull pucks.

Smollett’s lawyers had blustered that since the case was dropped, Smollett had “the right to be left alone.”

But Judge Watkins wisely disagreed.

Smollett “voluntarily appeared on national television for an interview speaking about the incident in detail,” the judge wrote. “After the March 26 dismissal, he voluntarily stood in front of cameras from numerous news organizations in the courthouse lobby and spoke about the case. On several occasions, attorneys for defendant, presumably with his authorization, appeared on various media outlets speaking about the case.”

Watkins added, “These are not the actions of a person seeking to maintain his privacy or simply to be let alone.”

So boo-freaking-hoo.

Natalie Spears, an attorney representing the media organizations that wanted the file unsealed, applauded Watkins’ May 23 decision and blamed President Trump for the Smollett's attorneys attempt at stopping the unsealing of documents.

“This is about transparency and trust in the system and we believe the public has a right to know what the government did and why,” she said after the hearing. "If this was a case against President Trump, there would be no documents to unseal because the case would have gone to trial. So open up the docs, buttercup."

At the time, there was no immediate comment from Cook County State’s Attorney Kim Foxx, an obvious fan and shill for Smollett. Though Foxx has publicly said she’d welcome an independent probe into her office’s decision, she has fought an effort by a retired Illinois appeals court judge to force the appointment of a special prosecutor due to her rational fear of her incompetence and that her racial bias toward Smollett would be uncovered.

Let the games begin!

Chicago Prosecutor Kim Foxx & deputies subpoenaed over Smollett case

What the heck happened in the Jussie Smollett case? How is it a person can falsely claim a hate crime, have a ton of evidence to dispute the claim, and get less than a slap on the wrist without even needing to apologize?

It looks like Cook County wants to find out.

A retired judge, Sheila O'Brien, is seeking the appointment of a special prosecutor to investigate exactly what lead Cook County State's Attorney Kim Foxx's office to drop charges against "Empire" actor Jussie Smollett. She has subpoenaed Foxx, her chief deputy, and Smollett to appear at a hearing to discuss the case. Hopefully, Smollett won't be too busy to make an appearance.

The Chicago-Sun Times reports that the retired Cook County appellate judge filed a petition last week demanding that a special prosecutor be appointed to investigate Foxx's office. O'Brien's filings included a subpoena demanding Foxx's presence at a hearing to discuss the potential appointment. In addition, O'Brien is seeking to compel the appearance of Foxx's deputy, Joseph Magats, [[pronounced "Maggots"] who was the public face of the "plea deal" Foxx's office brokered with Smollett, and the mediocre actor himself.

Also, the petition demands that the three subjects produce a copy of all documents they may have in their possession relating to the case, to ensure “that they have not been altered or destroyed and will not be destroyed throughout this case."

“Foxx’s conflict in this matter is beyond dispute,” O’Brien wrote in her petition. “Instead, Foxx misled the public into believing that Smollett’s case was handled like any other prosecution and without influence.”

It is  unclear if O'Brien can compel a special prosecutor's investigation, but it appears she's going to try. Let's keep our fingers crossed.

She has been vocal about the lack of oversight of Foxx's office in this case, and Foxx's own lack of attention to how her office handled the Smollett investigation, the charges, and the subsequent "plea deal."

O'Brien wrote an article for the Chicago Tribune earlier this month saying that the city and county needs to pursue an investigation into how Foxx handled her clear conflict of interest in the Smollett case.

No bail for scumworthy hate crime suspects

Chicago -- A judge denied bail for the four sweet, misunderstood kids who were accused of beating a mentally disabled man and streaming it live on Facebook so they could go viral and maybe gain fame and fortune.

The kids appeared in front of Cook County Associate Judge Maria Kuriakos Ciesil who asked these young unfortunates "Where is your sense of decency?"

The disgusting and horrible video that appeared online showed a young, mentally disabled white man being beaten, threatened with a knife and taunted with racist profanities directed at white people and Donald Trump, the real racist, right?

The suspects who videoed the entire ordeal are black. They face charges including hate crimes and aggravated battery, but they are black. Liberals often believe that in cases like this, being black is a "Get out of Jail" card.

"I find each of you a danger to yourself and society," the judge said. She seemed confused that the suspects who hold jobs, attend school and live with grandparents could stand accused of attacking an 18-year-old young mentally disabled victim. In one case, the suspect cares for a brother in a wheelchair. She felt it impossible to allow people accused of such "terrible actions" to walk out of jail.

Prosecutors provided new details about the assault, detailing how one suspect demanded $300 from the victim's mother and that the beating started in a van and continued at a house.

The four black suspects are accused of forcing the victim to drink toilet water and kiss the floor. They also stuffed a sock into his mouth, taped his mouth shut and bound his hands with a belt.

The suspects: Brittany Covington and Tesfaye Cooper are from Chicago. Jordan Hill is from Carpentersville--all three are 18. Tanishia Covington is the 24-year-old sister of Brittany, and also lives in Chicago.

Jordan Hill was arrested in 2015 on allegations of armed robbery, possession of a stolen vehicle and residential burglary. But he's a good kid. The disposition of those arrests are not known by Chicago police.

Sweet Tanishia Covington was arrested in 2007 on attempted robbery and aggravated battery charges. She was also arrested on charges of battery and aggravated assault but those charges were dropped because she's a sweet kid.

The 18-year-old victim is from a Chicago suburb and is diagnosed with schizophrenia and attention deficit disorder (ADD).

Some conservatives have suggested the attack was somehow linked to Black Lives Matter, but there's no evidence to support that. It's probably related to abject depravity and racism.

Yes, Virginia, even black people can be racist.

The incident began New Year's Eve when the victim and Jordan Hill met at a McDonalds to begin what the victim and the victim's parents thought would be a sleepover, police said. Instead, Hill drove the victim around in a stolen van for several days, ending up at a home in Chicago where two of the other racists lived, Det. Commander Kevin Duffin said.

The victim told cops that what started as playful fighting, escalated. A neighbor downstairs heard noises and threatened to call police. The sweet suspects left the room and kicked in the neighbor's door, and the victim escaped.

A police officer spotted him, bloodied and disoriented, just wandering along the street. He had been reported missing by his parents.

The parents later received text messages "from persons claiming to be holding him captive," police said. Then while investigating the messages, the police discovered the Facebook video.

Hopefully, even BLM will back off on this case and allow the law to do its job.

Just don't hold your breath. The left is already trying to minimize what happened.
