Seriously Syria

Back in 2007, presidential candidate, Joe Biden, said of then president George W. Bush, that striking back at Iraq unilaterally was a breach of his Constitutional rights and that he would lead the movement to call for impeachment proceedings. The reason he gave was that Iraq was not a threat to the United States and because of this, it would require Congressional approval for military action to be taken against them. On the other hand, Obama appears to be doing exactly the same thing with Syria, but it isn't exactly the same thing--he's a liberal and Biden's boss. The hypocrisy is amazing.

But what's Obama's plan of attack and the aftermath of that plan? His guess is as good as Biden's, I suppose. One thing that was mentioned was that there is no intention to take Bashir Assad's regime out of the picture. So my next question is, what's the point? Is he doing this because he threatened Assad with a "red line in the sand" if chemical weapons were to be used against his people? If yes, then it appears that he wants our troops to fight for his ego. Is he doing this because he has forgiven al Qaeda and what they did to over 3 thousand people back on September 11, 2001? After all, the revolutionary Syrian forces are al Qaeda--at least most of them are.
Are you talkin' to me?

Obama is in a quagmire with Syria. If he does nothing, which is what a large majority of the American public seem to want, based on a recent ABC opinion poll, he will win the public favor. If he uses the four warships he has in the area, and launch a bunch of Cruise missiles, and then does nothing about Bashir "the Chin" Assad, he will look like an impotent little boy who has made the United States into being considered a paper tiger by the rest of the world.

I believe that Obama should not move forward unilaterally--he needs Congress to approve military action. But if he's going to go ahead and hit Syria, he must show Assad that if he continues killing his people, we can kill him wherever he tries to hide. But even then, we need a plan, an endgame, and Obama doesn't seem to have one.

No American president should put our troops in harm's way in a war that probably should not be entered, but certainly it should not be done without the approval of Congress, unless our country is in immediate danger and time cannot be spared.

One of my favorite quotes about war, and one that pertains to Obama and what we know of him is:  "God created war so that Americans would learn geography." Mark Twain. Of course, Obama doesn't need to leave the country to get a geography lesson--he just needs to visit the Gulf, and count the number of stars in the flag.
