NC Gov. goes against parents over school choice for their children

"You will obey"

North Carolina Gov. Roy Cooper [pronouns she, it] declared a parent's right of school choice for their children a "state of emergency" Monday, in a dictatorial attempt to stop a school choice bill from passing the state legislature. 

Since the state legislature is elected by the people of North Carolina, the move by Cooper goes directly against their wishes, meaning that the only state of emergency is having a governor who uses his power to circumvent them. But then again, they also voted for Cooper and are getting what they asked for, good and hard.

Cooper released a video announcement where he declared a state of emergency, arguing that the state of public education is "no less important" than other emergencies, which is total bull crap judging by the way they handled the pandemic.

"It’s time to declare a State of Emergency for public education in North Carolina. There’s no Executive Order like with a hurricane or the pandemic, but it’s no less important," Cooper stated, as if the people's elected representatives were going against their wishes to have some control over their children's education.

He continued to bloviate: "It’s clear that the Republican legislature is aiming to choke the life out of public education. I’m declaring this state of emergency because you need to know what’s happening. If you care about public schools in North Carolina, it’s time to take immediate action and tell them to stop the damage that will set back our schools for a generation."

There's a reason their legislature is Republican, but he thinks he supersedes them.

Cooper's tyrannical announcement drew intense blowback on Twitter by those who refuse to march in lockstep with the woke agenda that is using an overreach of government power. And in this case, it's more than ironic that Cooper's own daughter attends a private school.

The governor has been criticized for opposing private school vouchers while sending his daughter to a private school in Raleigh. He has also attempted to end the state’s Opportunity Scholarship Program which provides vouchers to lower and middle-income students because it's no skin off his butt.

Independent Women’s Forum senior policy analyst Kelsey Bolar tweeted:

"What a hypocrite. Public schools aren't good enough for his kids, but they are for yours." 

Purple Strategies partner Rory Cooper posted: 

"If I *were* the Governor of NC, I would've been declaring a state of emergency when the state was in the bottom third of states reopening schools and depriving children of the education they needed. Not once parents got involved and demanded something better for their kids."

But of course, no state of emergency was declared about that.

The Blaze columnist Auron MacIntyre wrote: 

"Executive governing in the permanent state of exception to save democracy."

School choice advocate Corey DeAngelis posted:

"they're losing control over the minds of other people's children. good. cry harder, @RoyCooperNC."

The statement that comports to what I've been saying here is by Americans for Prosperity vice president Casey Mattox:

"A ‘state of emergency’ over a bill passed by the legislature. Very serious."

Last month, GOP lawmakers in North Carolina began to move forward with education reform bills that promote school choice, a move that would level the playing field for minorities in the state. One measure they proposed would provide equal funding to charter school students in line with that of public school students. Cooper, and other critics claimed the bill would serve only to cut funding for public schools.

The measures by NC Republicans followed the announcement by State Rep. Tricia Cotham that she would be leaving the Democratic Party to join the GOP. Her decision, she stated at the time, came from her support for school choice.

"On issues like school choice, like charters, we have to evolve," Cotham said. "One-size-fits-all in education is wrong for children … [Democrats] didn't really want to talk about children. They had talking points from adults and adult organizations."

It appears as if some of the woke have awakened.

More arrests made in gutsy statue mugging

Two additional socialists were arrested Wednesday for destroying a century-old statue of a Confederate soldier in Durham, North Carolina. 

Dante Strobino and Ngoc Loan Tran were arrested as they stupidly attended a court hearing for another socialist-anarchist woman who was charged Tuesday for climbing a ladder and attaching a rope to the bronze statue, in a move reminiscent of ISIS destroying Christian statues.

The Durham County Sheriff's office said the two were charged with two felonies related to inciting and participating in a riot that damaged property.

The ladder-climbing woman, Takiyah Thompson, was charged with the same counts the previous day. 

Fun Fact: Takiyah, usually spelled 'Taqiyya' means to lie in the service of Islam.

Thompson is a student at North Carolina Central University, allegedly majoring in lesbian dance theory.

All three anarchists belong to the Workers World Party, a communist party in the United States founded in 1959 and led by Sam Marcy of the Socialist Workers Party. The group helped organize the Durham protest in response to the deadly violence in Charlottesville, Va. over the weekend.

Thompson allegedly climbed up and attached a rope to the statue and her colleague commies pulled it down.

After the statue fell, protesters thought it safe to kick the Confederate soldier while he was down. Some spit at it, others flipped him "the bird."

"I'm tired of white supremacy keeping its foot on my neck and the necks of people who look like me," Thompson said at a news conference. "That statue glorifies the conditions that oppressed people live in, and it had to go."

Yes, the anarchists are tired of waiting for lawful change--blame it on faster internet and leftist attention deficit disorder.

Insofar as white supremacists putting their feet on the necks of people like Thompson, there has never been a time in the United States, with more opportunities in education and employment than now. 

The number of neo-nazis and white supremacists in the U.S. is relatively quite low, however, it seems that the number is on the rise. On the other side we have the alt left, Antifa and other forms of mental illness.

The Durham anarchy event was in response to a white supremacist rally held in Charlottesville, Va. over the weekend, which led to three deaths. While Charlottesville sparked new debate by government officials over removing symbols of the Confederacy and slavery around the South, the state of North Carolina has a 2015 law protecting their monuments--not that it made any difference to the actual law enforcement officials who sat on their hands while the statue of a Confederate soldier was being pulled down. The law prevents removing such monuments on public property without permission from state officials.


Durham County Sheriff Mike Andrews said Tuesday that his deputies got off their butts and are now working on finding out who was involved in the incident that they could have prevented by upholding the 2015 law. The department plans to pursue felony charges against those perpetrators.

Late Tuesday, NC Gov. Roy Cooper suddenly realized after all his years on the planet, that the remaining Confederate monuments on state property ought to be removed and directed officials to study the cost and logistics of moving them to historical sites or museums. He also tallied up the likely number of votes, both plus and minus, such a move would render him come next election.

"We cannot continue to glorify a war against the United States of America in the defense of slavery," Cooper said in a statement. "These monuments should come down."

So where this epiphany come from, Gov?

It's all politics. Everything has become politics. Everything has become us against them.
