A part-time sheriff's deputy in Oakland County, Michigan was fired for posting a photo of a carved watermelon effigy of Sen. Kamala Harris (D-CA), [who may or may not be the Vice President-elect, depending on the official election results] as WXYZ Detroit reports.
The firing occurred the day the post was brought to the attention of the Oakland County Sheriff's Office.
The Rev. Dr. Wendell Anthony, president of the NAACP Detroit Branch said that relating African Americans to watermelons "is linked to buffoonery and to less than." He added, "I believe that the intent was purposely structured to diminish and to dilute the significance of the first African American … as vice president of these United States.”
But, on the other hand, I believe it was more likely a mindless attempt at humor and a display of disapproval of Harris, a far Left Democrat whose political record is fraught with questionable behavior, and whose laugh can put off and anger the saints among us.
Of course, I could be wrong and the deputy is a racist, however, I believe that losing one's employment is rather drastic and I wonder if the deputy was questioned about why he posted this on Facebook and what he was thinking when he did. When the left calls every Trump voter a racist, you have to wonder who the real racists are.
Maybe the deputy is a racist, maybe he isn't. You don't know and neither do I.
