Attorney for 2 men questioned in Smollett case asked if attack was staged--here's her reply

The two men who were questioned in the Jussie Smollett were both released and Chicago police want to question the alleged victim again.

The Chicago PD tweeted:
EMPIRE CASE UPDATE: Due to new evidence as a result of today’s interrogations, the individuals questioned by police in the #Empire case have now been released without charging and detectives have additional investigative work to complete. #ChicagoPolice

The men who were initially treated as suspects, were released with no charges being made, and detectives on the case say they have more work to complete.

According to the Chicago Tribune , the police want to reinterview Smollett, and on Sunday, media accounts on CNN and Fox News, using unnamed sources, reported that police were no longer treating the "Empire" actor as a victim and were saying that the evidence they collected implied the attack on Smollett was staged. Holy racist bull crap, Batman!

Smollett’s attorneys predictably fired back at those reports, Deadline reported. But why did he hire defense lawyers in the first place if he was the victim?

“As a victim of a hate crime who has cooperated with the police investigation, Jussie Smollett is angered and devastated by recent reports that the perpetrators are individuals he is familiar with,” said defense lawyers Todd S. Pugh and Victor P. Henderson in a statement. This is a typical tactic used by people under suspicious circumstances. It isn't yet known if he staged the racist, anti-Trump, anti-gay attack, but what we know of the incident is incredibly weird.

Gloria Schmidt is the attorney for Ola and Abel Osundairo, Nigerian brothers, one of whom was on the show, "Empire." They were originally picked up on Wednesday by police as they planned to leave for their home country. Uber records were able to locate them in time.

When Schmidt was asked by the media if the attack was staged, she said: "That will come out . . . in due time."

And while that isn't definitive, it certainly sounds as if Smollett may be in hot water for staging an attack and further dividing us further along racial and political lines and calling Trump supporters homophobic.
