The Israel Security Agency, known as the Shin Bet, managed to stop 1,040 major terrorist attacks in Judea, Samaria, and Jerusalem throughout 2024, as detailed in their yearly report released on Tuesday.
Most of the foiled terrorist attacks in 2024 involved firearms and explosive devices, with the others being stabbings, vehicle-rammings, suicide bombings and abductions.
This success meant a 40% drop in successful attacks when compared to the year before.
The majority of these prevented attacks were with firearms (689) and bombs (326), while others included stabbings, car-rammings, suicide bombings, and kidnappings.
When it came to dealing with threats from Iran, there was a massive 400% increase in arrests for spying, 13 plots were thwarted, and 27 people were charged.
During the Gaza conflict, the Shin Bet carried out three hostage rescues and several operations to recover bodies. They released audio from the rescue of Ori Megidish on Oct. 30, 2023, and the rescue of Louis Har and Fernando Marman on Feb. 12, 2024.
In Gaza, they looked at 2,500 people suspected of wrongdoing, interrogated 650 of them, and got useful information from these interrogations. They detained 1,350 people, which included 40 high-ranking commanders, 165 people close to top leaders, and 45 who were part of the Hamas attack on southern Israel on Oct. 7, 2023.
Within Israel's borders before 1967, they uncovered 20 terror cells made up of Arab Israelis, with five of these planning attacks with car bombs or similar explosives. The "Tequila" team, which deals with immediate threats, was sent out 32 times to stop attacks before they happened.
In Lebanon, they took out 25 senior commanders from groups like Hamas and the PFLP.
For cyber security, they managed to block 700 significant cyberattacks, which was five times more than in 2023.
The report also covered their work on international security for big events like the Paris Olympics and Eurovision in Malmo, mentioning challenges like cyber threats and attempts by Iran to infiltrate.
