Currently the international border crossing between Western New York and Canada remains closed.
A 27-year-old male was injured and was taken to Niagara Falls Memorial Hospital with minor injuries and the two people, possibly illegal migrants, in the vehicle are dead.
Federal authorities said the incident involved a vehicle as it attempted to enter the U.S., according to local reports.
"The FBI Buffalo Field Office is investigating a vehicle explosion at the Rainbow Bridge, a border crossing between the US and Canada in Niagara Falls," the FBI said in a statement.

Peace Bridge, Lewiston-Queenston Bridge, and Whirlpool Bridge are also closed as the incident is investigated.
Gov. Kathy Hochul (D-NY) [aka "Governor Obvious"] said on X that she is monitoring the situation closely and asked the New York State Police to work with the FBI Joint Terrorism Task Force to "monitor all points of entry to New York."
The two men in the car are dead, according to the police sources.
A briefcase or suitcase was located at the scene of the explosion and is being treated as a possible explosive device and the bomb squad is handling the package, as ABC News has reported.
Ron Rienas, general manager of the Buffalo and Fort Erie Public Bridge Authority, said that all four U.S.-Canada bridges that go over the Niagara River have been closed while the investigation continues. A large police presence has gathered in the area, according to several videos.
It isn't known whether the vehicle, which exploded on the U.S. side, was traveling to or from Canada or whether it had passed through the border checkpoint, but it appears that the vehicle was driving toward a building when it exploded.
More details will likely follow.
