Jerry Lewis shot dead for not wearing a mask in Calif. supermarket

Hawkins and wife Sabrina

No, not that Jerry Lewis, but a 50-year-old man who was shot by a supermarket security guard as he was walking away after an argument with the guard. Sorry about the cheap trick I used.

The guard was charged with murder.

The shooting occurred at Gardena market in Southern California on Sunday when Jerry Lewis entered the store without a mask and got into an argument with Umeir Corniche Hawkins, the guard.

Hawkins was charged with murder and his lovely wife, Sabrina Carter has, along with Umeir, been charged with one count of possession of a handgun by a felon.

While masks are now mandatory in California, a rule put into effect by a would-be Hollywood actor and current governor, Gavin Newsom (D) in mid-June, it was never meant to imply that refusal or failure to wear a mask would result in capital punishment; yet here we are.

Lewis allegedly left the store, returned and wasn't done arguing with Hawkins, who then fatally shot him as he walked away, prosecutors said.

That sounds cold.

Hawkins and his wife Sabrina Carter were each charged with one count of possession of a handgun by a felon, stemming from a prior conviction in 2013 for assault by means of force likely to produce great bodily injury, according to a press release by the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office.

Bail for Hawkins was set a $1 million and $35,000 for Carter because of racism or something.

Hawkins faces a maximum sentence of 50 years to life in state prison while Carter faces three years in prison.
