Pablo Escobar's hitman dies after losing battle with cancer

Bogota, Colombia -- Jhon Jairo Velásquez was a former hitman for cocaine kingpin Pablo Escobar. "Popeye" as his friends and loving parents called him, died in Colombia on Thursday after losing his battle with stomach cancer, prison authorities said. He was only 57 and the underworld will miss him.

Popeye had been hospitalized at the National Cancer Institute in Bogota where his days of "three hots and a cot" have ended. His days of killing people for profit are over. He had confessed to killing no less than 300 people as well as coordinating the deaths of thousands beyond that number for his boss' Medellin cartel in the 1980s and 1990s.

The bastard spent more than 20 years behind bars for plotting the murder of an ex-presidential candidate and was released in 2014 on parole.

After his release, he traded the bullet for the written word and even gained a bit of fame on YouTube where he angrily denounced leftist rebels and corrupt politicians, because if there was one thing he hated, it was unethical behavior. He aspired to run for a senate seat.

However, in 2017, Popeye found himself in deep trouble as authorities said they were seeking his arrest for violating parole after he was caught partying with a major drug trafficker wanted by the U.S. He was eventually captured in 2018 on charges of extortion.

Velásquez spoke of the murders he committed on Escobar's behalf as if he was discussing stock market strategy. In one TV interview he explained how he preferred to use a revolver when killing people and he enjoyed working "from the eyebrows up."

What a guy. He will be missed like toenail fungus.
