Trump adviser denounces "Cocaine Mitch"

Lynne Patton a Trump administration adviser is a former drug addict and a member of the "Outrage Police." She has finally found a way to publicly use her former addiction as a hammer by attacking Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell as he is raising money for re-election using his "Cocaine Mitch" moniker. Patton says it isn't funny or appropriate.

Look at Mitch McConnell's face. Calling that punim "Cocaine Mitch" is hilarious and appropriate.

“It’s almost like making drugs cool, and they’re not,” Patton claimed in a Friday interview with Bold TV. “Not to sound like Nancy Reagan, but drugs are not cool, just so you know.”

Which is why they glorify celebrities who overdose on drugs.

Of course drugs aren't cool, and Mitch isn't doing that by allowing that sobriquet to be used in his fund-raising ads. It's because it's a nickname people who know use to joke about him or humanize him. It's a familiarity that can be endearing if you don't take it seriously--like if you didn't have a serious drug problem, in which case, you might.

Patton, an administrator in the Department of Housing and Urban Development, said McConnell’s embrace of the nickname is insensitive to people suffering from drug addiction. Patton has openly discussed her struggle with substance abuse and addiction.

“I think depending on what day it is, whether or not Mitch McConnell is a friend of the president, but as somebody who has personally struggled with cocaine addiction, I don’t think that that is funny or appropriate, I wouldn’t endorse that on any side of the aisle,” Patton said.

McConnell’s, R-Ky., reelection campaign tweeted Thursday that it had its biggest fundraising day after offering to sell “Cocaine Mitch” red T-shirts on his campaign website.

The website urges supporters to “join the ‘Team Mitch Cartel’” by purchasing the $35 shirts, and donating up to $2,800 per election.

Former U.S. Senate candidate Don Blankenship, a West Virginia coal executive, started the “Cocaine Mitch” moniker in a campaign ad. It is a joke and meant to be a joke and if former drug users are upset with the joke, perhaps they haven't fully dealt with their personal issues.

The nickname refers to debunked [as in false] allegations that drugs were found aboard a commercial cargo ship owned by the family of McConnell’s wife, Elaine Chao, the secretary of the Transportation Department.

So get over it, please, Lynne Patton. Put away your outrage, take a few deep breaths and relax. Nobody is trying to piss you off or tempt you with cocaine. Not even Cocaine Mitch. We love you, baby.
