NY Times stands with Sarah Jeong after racist tweets surface

The New York Times is standing with its decision to hire tech writer Sarah Jeong despite a Twitter history of derogatory tweets aimed at gays, blacks, lesbians and transgender people.

Oh, wait. I got it wrong--it was aimed at white people, particularly old white men, but not limited to age.

"Oh man it's kind of sick how much joy I get out of being cruel to old white men," Jeong wrote in July 2014. That was merely one of many messages that have gone viral.

On Wednesday social media went ballistic with images of racist tweets sent from an unverified account appearing to belong to Jeong, soon after the Gray Lady announced she was joining the rag.

The Times issued a statement Thursday saying they reviewed her social media history and since finding nothing negative about women, people of color or the LGBTQ community or any other intersectional group of privilege, [Mexicans, little people, Muslims or illegal immigrants] they were going ahead with the hiring.

"We hired Sarah Jeong because of the exceptional work she has done . . . her journalism and the fact that she is a young Asian woman have made her a subject of frequent online harassment. For a period of time she responded to that harassment by imitating the rhetoric of her harassers," the Times unashamedly said in a statement. "She regrets it, and the Times does not condone it.

So let me get this straight . . . if, say, a guy named Solomon Bernstein tweets: "South Korean hack, Sarah Jeong, writes like crap," she would have responded, "Oh boy, how I love to piss off the Jews" and the Times would be okay hiring her because she was responding in kind?

And how did she know on Twitter that her harassers were "old, white men"? That makes no sense unless she can come up with tweets where they reveal their ages, and melanin levels.

But not all of Jeong's "exceptional" work was about police and old white men--she wasn't too happy with all men in general and white women weren't her cup of tea.

The Times can say whatever they want and hire whomever they want, but let's not pretend they would have hired her if she made racist remarks about the acceptable groups the left holds dear.

Jeong tweeted in 2016 that  "dumbass f***ing white people marking up the internet with their opinions like dogs pissing on fire hydrants." She also called "old white men" "lemmings" and said that white people will "go extinct soon" using the hashtag "CancelWhitePeople.

So please don't try passing that crap off as 'imitating the rhetoric' of the harassment she experienced.

"Are white people genetically predisposed to burn faster in the sun, thus logically being only fit to live underground like groveling goblins, she wrote in 2014. She also added a graph claiming that "whiteness" results in being "awful."

Hard to believe that generalizing to her harassers by globalizing all white people in such racist terms, makes it impossible to believe that she was merely responding to the harassing rhetoric she received.

Oh, and wouldn't it be nice to actually see the 'harassment' she has faced as a dumbass so-called journalist?
