Rep. Duncan Hunter (R-Calif.) and his wife, Margaret, were indicted on charges of converting campaign funds for personal expenses and filing false records. That is illegal and if true, Hunter is in big trouble.
Hunter was born in San Diego, California and is the son of former congressman Duncan Lee Hunter. He graduated from Granite Hills High School, in El Cajon, and San Diego State University and earned a degree in Business Administration.
On September 12, 2001, the day after the terrorist attacks, Hunter quit his job and joined the US Marine Corps. He attended Officer Candidates School in Quantico and graduated in March 2002 and commissioned as a Second Lieutenant and served as a field artillery officer in the 1st Marine Division, the oldest and largest active duty division in the Marine Corps after the 2003 invasion of Iraq. He completed a second tour in Falluhah, Iraq and participated in Operation Vigilant Resolve.
Hunter was honorably discharged from active duty in September 2005 but remained in the Marine Corps Reserve. In 2007 he was recalled to active duty and deployed to Afghanistan on a third tour of duty now in the War on Terrorism [which is a rather stupid name for a war, being that terrorism is a tactic and you don't fight a war against a tactic]. He was promoted to Major in 2012.
It so totally sucks that Hunter has been indicted on these charges and I hope that he's innocent. If he is found to be guilty, then he has made the biggest mistake of his life along with his wife. But when charges like this come up, it generally doesn't bode well for the accused.
This is a developing story and more will follow. Keep your fingers crossed.
