Trump-supported bill to stop "rogue" judges passes House

Well, folks, the House of Representatives finally did something that doesn’t make me want to hurl my coffee mug at the TV.

On Wednesday, the House passed the No Rogue Rulings Act, a bill spearheaded by Rep. Darrell Issa, (R-CA) that clips the wings of federal district judges who’ve been playing superhero with nationwide injunctions against Trump’s policies.

The vote? A tidy 219-213, with all but one Republican saying “aye” and every Democrat predictably clutching their pearls and voting “nay.” Shocker.

This little gem of legislation tells those black-robed overlords they can’t just slap a countrywide pause on Trump’s agenda anymore. Instead, they’ve got to keep their rulings focused on the actual parties in front of them. Since Trump took office, his administration’s been hit with over 15 of these judicial temper tantrums—everything from birthright citizenship tweaks to telling the DEI crowd to take a hike. Issa’s bill says, “Enough already.”

Issa told Fox News Digital on Tuesday, “We’ve got the votes.” He wasn’t so sure the Dems would play ball, though he did toss them a bone by pointing out that even Biden’s former solicitor general, Elizabeth Prelogar, griped about these judgey power trips back in the day. “We’re hoping some people look at it on its merits rather than its politics,” he said. Good luck with that, Darrell.

Then there’s Rep. Derek Schmidt (R-KS), who’s got an amendment in there to stop plaintiffs from “judge shopping” like they’re picking out a new pair of shoes. He told Fox News Digital, “A lot of things get called commonsense around here, but this one genuinely is.”

He’s not wrong. “The basic policy of trying to rein in the overuse of nationwide injunctions was supported by Democrats before. It’s supported by Republicans now, and I’m hoping [this vote will] be supported by both,” he added.

Rep. Lance Gooden (R-TX), another Judiciary Committee hotshot, didn’t mince words post-vote: “Many Democrat-appointed lower court judges have conducted themselves like activist liberal lawyers in robes while attempting to stop President Trump’s nationwide reforms. The No Rogue Rulings Act limits this unchecked power.”

Way to tell it like it is, Lance.

And Rep. Randy Feenstra, (R-IA) brought the populist heat: “More than 77 million Americans voted for [Trump’s] pro-American policies and want to see them implemented quickly. There is no reason that activist judges whose authority does not extend nationally should be allowed to completely stop [his] agenda.” Preach, Randy. That’s the kind of math even the D.C. swamp can’t ignore.

The GOP mostly rallied like champs, despite some early squabbling about whether to impeach these “rogue” judges or just spank them with a bill. Rep. Marlin Stutzman (R-IN), who was Team Impeachment but still backed Issa, told Fox News Digital, “The judicial vendetta against President Trump’s agenda needs to be checked. Nationwide injunctions by activist judges have stood in the way of the American people’s will and in some cases their safety, since the President was sworn into office.” He’s not wrong—Stutzman says Issa’s fix “will stop individual judge’s political beliefs from preventing the wants and needs of our citizens from being implemented.” Amen to that.

Some conservatives wanted to go full scorched-earth and impeach the worst offenders, but House GOP brass shut that down faster than you can say “RINO.” They’re betting Issa’s way is the smarter play. We’ll see.

Here’s the kicker: the bill’s got a snowball’s chance in the Senate, where it needs 60 votes and at least a few Dems to grow a spine. Don’t hold your breath, patriots. For now, though, the House just threw a haymaker at judicial overreach. Pass the popcorn.
