On Sunday, the Israeli Air Force (IAF) targeted a Hezbollah smuggling tunnel that extended from Lebanon into Syria, according to an IDF announcement.
"The tunnel was used for smuggling weapons into the Bekaa Valley, in Lebanon from Syria," the IDF stated.
This tunnel had previously been attacked by Israel's military, and the IDF remains committed to preventing its reactivation.
Simultaneously, the IDF also struck munitions and launch sites in Lebanon, which contravened the terms of the Israel-Lebanon agreement.
This military action coincides with reports of skirmishes between Hezbollah and the newly established Syrian transitional government and are part of a wider effort to curb illegal activities along the border, which were mostly ignored during the Assad regime's control.
"The current crackdown has targeted smuggling, particularly of drugs and weapons, across the border," sources report.
Similar incidents are also shedding light on the escalating tensions between the two nations. The Lebanese Armed Forces have been attempting to restore order in areas previously occupied by both the IDF and Hezbollah following Israel's withdrawal from southern Lebanon.
Newly appointed President Joseph Aoun expressed his determination to keep order at the border, stating, "We aim to maintain order and security along our borders."
The ongoing conflicts on the north Lebanon border are indicative of the Lebanese government's campaign to dismantle Hezbollah's smuggling networks.
