New Jersey Democrat Sen. Bob Menendez was indicted last week on federal corruption charges, which seems to be his modus operandi since this wasn't his first such indictment. Now he has hired the lawyer who is representing President Biden's whoring, drug addled son, Hunter, to handle the case.
The lawyer, Abbe Lowell is the same person the he hired in 2015 in a similar case which ended in a mistrial. However, the evidence in this case is much stronger, according to legal experts.
Lowell was hired by Hunter Biden after his plea deal fell apart in federal court last month which eventually led to prosecutors charging Hunter Biden on firearm-related charges. Now Menendez has hired him again.
The federal indictment against the senator was unsealed on Friday and accused him and his lovely wife, Nadine, of accepting bribes from three New Jersey business people for his actions he performed as chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, the committee that anyone would want if they were corrupt.
According to the oxymoronically named Department Of Justice, the bribes were intended to protect the three businessmen and to benefit Egypt.
If found guilty, Menendez faces up to 45 years in prison, but there's a better chance of getting hit by a meteorite falling on Times Square at noon on a day that does not end in "Y."
The charges include conspiracy to commit bribery, conspiracy to commit honest services fraud, and conspiracy to commit extortion under color of official right.
We all know what bribery is, but conspiracy to commit honest services fraud may be less familiar. It simply means that the government needs to prove that Menendez failed to disclose his breach of duty to provide honest services as it's the non-disclosure that implicates the fraudulent aspect of the crime--in this case, bribery by the three business men.
“Those bribes included cash, gold, payments toward a home mortgage, compensation for a low-or-no-show job, a luxury vehicle, and other things of value,” the indictment said. Federal authorities reportedly found gold bars and nearly $500,000 in cash stuffed throughout the senator’s home that they traced back to the businessmen Menendez allegedly worked with.

Conspiracy to commit extortion under color of official right means that Menendez allegedly induced, obtained, accepted, or agreed to accept payment to which he was not entitled, and knowing that the payment [bribe] was made in return for taking, withholding, or influencing official acts--in his case, it seems to refer to the latter.
Menendez is trying to claim he is a victim of a vast anti-Latino move that by his adversaries, but even Latina Democrat Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (NY) who can cook Spanish food, dance to Spanish music, and say a few Spanish words, has called for Menendez to step down over the scandal. Others in the Senate, possibly fearing for their own investigation into their activities have remained silent.
“It is not lost on me how quickly some are rushing to judge a Latino and push him out of his seat,” he said. “I am not going anywhere.”
Yeah, he's the victim in all this and with a corrupt DOJ, he may be correct about not going anywhere.
