Brooklyn Nets basketball player Kyrie Irving has been suspended, at least for five games by the team earlier this month for refusing to disavow anti-Semitic sentiment after sharing a documentary depicting anti-Semitic tropes and other material on his Twitter account.
The suspension of Kyrie Irving has been extended at least one more game the team's head coach Jacque Vaughn confirmed. Irving will be out of the lineup when Brooklyn plays the LA Lakers on Sunday. Coach Vaughn didn't provide a timeline for the anti-Semite's return.
Brooklyn's 110-95 win over the Los Angeles Clippers on Saturday marked the fifth game of Irving's team-imposed suspension, and showed that the Nets can win without him. Sunday's game against the Lakers will be the sixth game he has missed over the controversy. so he should be fresh to play one day soon.
Irving met with Joe Tsai, the team's owner on Thursday – one of six steps the franchise laid out for Irving to complete in order to be reinstated – signaling that he will likely return soon.
