Well, the masks are off. Now that Republicans have increased a portion of the Hispanic vote in 2020, the Congressional Democrats are upset and scared and are trying to force the federal government to prevent Latinos from hearing anything other than leftist ideas.
Members of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus (CBC) want the Federal Communications Commission to block the sale of Miami Spanish language radio stations they think will move from left-wing programming to a more conservative slant, and that scares the crap out of them. One of these members include: Rep. Ruben Gallego (D-AZ), the chair of its political arm.
America CV, a Spanish-language media company, announced that it was buying Caracol 1260 AM this month. Soon after, it said it would change the station’s name to America Radio and replaced Raúl Martínez, a former Democratic mayor of Hialeah and liberal talk show host, Newsweek reported. Caracol is owned by America CV which owns America Te Vé.
Martínez’s dismissal poured fresh fuel on the ongoing clash between Republicans and Democrats over Spanish-language programming in South Florida. Democrats have whined for years, especially during the last presidential election, that they are not represented in Hispanic media dominated by conservative and Republican voices. It would be a different story if the left controlled the mainstream media, but there's Fox News, another network they want to eliminate.
Spanish-language radio in Miami grew along the Cuban exile community, who tend to vote conservative since Fidel Castro became their dictator. Stations such as WQBA, La Cubanísima, La Poderosa and Radio Mambi reflected the exiles’ drive for a free Cuba.
However, as time went by, Miami's Spanish language radio was also influenced by other Hispanic groups such as Colombians and Venezuelans, and thus became more liberal.
Marcell Felipe, cofounder of the company, told conservative outlet The Daily Wire, “America Teve is being accused of being conservative because it is anti-Castro [which is mostly true, because of the love Democrats have for dictators like Fidel and Che].
"We will not apologize for promoting democracy and opposing the Castro regime because we represent a community who are victims of that regime,” Felipe added.
Isn't it funny how the left fears the competition of ideas?
