Acosta, whose fame stems from his obnoxious interactions with former President Trump, got the anchoring gig with the hope that it would pull CNN out of the toilet of despair.
The Acosta-anchored Saturday extravaganza has averaged 796,000 viewers mostly in airports and nursing homes where the channel selector cannot be reached. Not surprisingly, CNN averaged 1.2 million viewers all of last year, and 1.1 million in the three months before Acosta took over the time slot, a 28% drop with Acosta anchoring his show.
But it's on Sundays when Acosta's suck-worthiness shines. His "CNN Newsroom" has thus far averaged 710,000 viewers, or roughly the same number of Chennai, India residents who ride on the roof of a commuter bus every day.
Acosta's rude and narcissistic behavior was best exemplified when in a 2018 post-midterm press conference he refused to give up the microphone to a young, female White House aide who was instructed to take it from him. This started a brief, bizarre contact between the two and it was obvious that Acosta bullied her.
His White House press pass was revoked the following day but eventually restored when CNN argued that it violated the First and Fifth Amendment rights of their idiot scumcrumpet and the network.
But that's water under the bridge.
CNN's numbers don't get any better when you look at key demographics of adults between the ages of 25-54, where his show is down 40% compared to 2020 on Saturday and 43% on Sunday.
The encounter with the aide didn’t change Acosta's abrasive, self-serving style, as he continued his aggressive behavior toward members of the Trump administration throughout his time as a White House fake news correspondent.
On his exit from the White House assignment, Acosta was widely mocked for admitting he had no plans to cover Joe Biden's presidency as actively as he did Trump's.
Both Acosta and the network deserve to suffer the viewership losses.
