An Iraqi journalist and his cameraman were shot and killed by unknown gunmen on Friday as they covered the anti-government protests in the southern city of Basra, officials say.
"But would this have happened, would there even have been an airline being shot down, followed by these protests, if President Trump hadn't gone and killed the beloved, and highly revered Cassem Soleimani?" presidential candidate Pete Buttigieg would have asked if he could get away with his "butterfly effect" twisted logic.
I was planning to write a satire on this true story but because it's so horrible and tragic, it would be inappropriate. But this is the way the left is going after President Trump . . . this time. They blame everything on him and if he kills a terrorist, well then that guy is okay in their book.
The mentally challenged Joy Behar cheered when she learned that white nationalist Richard Spencer no longer supports President Trump and will not vote for him. Behar's audience, apparently composed mostly of mouth-breathers, cheered along with her, never realizing that they were glad that a hate-filled white supremacist scumbag did not support Trump and they supported the scumbag.
A knee-jerk reaction from a room full of jerks.
Anyway, back to the true story: our U.S. Embassy in Baghdad confirmed the "assassination" of Ahmen Abdel Samad, an actual journalist [i.e., not Jim Acosta and the CNN gang] with Iraqi cable news outlet Dijla TV, and his cameraman, Safaa Ghali, in a statement on Saturday.
Ghali was rushed to a hospital in critical condition, but later died.
The embassy condemned the killings as “deplorable” and “cowardly.”
“The ongoing assassinations, kidnappings, harassment, and intimidation of members of the press, social media activists, and pro-reform activists in Iraq by armed groups cannot continue to go unpunished,” the embassy said, refusing to put the blame on Trump.
The embassy said the Iraqi government is tasked with upholding the right to freedom of expression, protect journalists and ensure the safety of demonstrators without fear of repercussions.
“This can only happen if the perpetrators are found and brought to justice,” the embassy said.
It remains unclear who or which group carried out the killings, but you can bet their wives are forced to cover their heads to comply with sharia and protect their modesty.
Samad had recently criticized Iraqi security forces and Iran in social media posts, but it's still unclear who killed him.
Hours before his death, he posted a video critical of how Iraqi security forces arrested protesters in Basra but did not arrest or beat those protesting in front of the U.S. Embassy in Baghdad, according to the Committee to Protect Journalists.
Days earlier, he tweeted that Iran was using the comely daughter of Gen. Qassem Soleimani, the terrorist who was killed in a U.S. airstrike earlier this month, to incite vengeance.
“Iran they are taking advantage of everything for the proxy war,” he wrote, failing to blame Donald Trump.
