POTUS and Putin have 'informal' palaver

According to The Washington Times, President Trump had an "informal" chat with Russian President Vladimir Putin  at the G-20 Summit in Argentina.

The talk was at a dinner on Friday for the world leaders who had gathered in Buenos Aries.

Trump had cancelled a formal meeting with Putin after Russia escalated military tensions with Ukraine after they captured several of their vessels and sailors.

"As is typical at multilateral events, President Trump and the First Lady had a number of informal conversations with world leaders at the dinner last night, including President Putin," White House press secretary Sarah Sanders said.

Sanders did not reveal the length of the conversation or what was discussed.

Trump's relationship with Putin has been closely watched due to longstanding but unsubstantiated allegations about Trump campaign collusion with Russian meddling in the 2016 election.

Many on the left say President Trump has been too soft on Putin when the two met in Helsinki, Finland at a July summit.

President Trump abruptly called off the planned 2-hour meeting with Mr. Putin as he flew aboard Air Force One to the summit. He tweeted that it would be "best for all parties" if he snubbed Putin.

Why he said it out loud is difficult to understand.

Tensions between Ukraine and Russia escalated Sunday when a Russian coast guard fired on and seized three Ukrainian vessels.

Ukraine is an ally but not a NATO partner.

The incident near Crimea in the Kerch Strait connecting the Black Sea to the Sea of Azov sparked fears of war.
