LATEST--UK Parliament attack: with Photo of "Asian" attacker

London -- Four people, including a London police officer and the attacker, are dead and more than 20 others injured by a car driven over the Westminster Bridge, outside of the Parliament building Wednesday.

The vehicle mowed down pedestrians on the bridge which left more than a dozen with serious, even catastrophic injuries.

At approximately the same time, an attacker stabbed a police officer and was shot on the grounds outside the British Parliament. The attacker has since been hospitalized and the compound has been put on lockdown.

There has been no immediate claim of responsibility but the chances are pretty good that it's Muslim-related.

The terrorist, possibly in his 30s or 40s, weilded a seven or eight-inch knife, according to witnesses.

At this time, it isn't clear if the person shot by police and the driver of the car are the same person.

Sources told Sky News that as many as three police officers were injured.

It is now known that the attacker has also died.

The Prime Minister Theresa May was rushed immediately to safety when the incident first began.

London police received the call at 2:40 p.m. local time (10:40 EDST) after they received reports about the vehicle crashing into a crowd on the Westminster Bridge.

London Ambulance Service treated ten people for injuries on the bridge.

Scotland Yard Commander BJ Harrington told reporters there were multiple injuries, including police officers, but "cannot confirm numbers or the nature of these injuries."

A full counter-terrorism investigation is ongoing. The threat level for international terrorism in the U.K. was already listed as severe and the attack fell on the anniversary of the suicide bombings in the Brussels airport and subway that killed 32 people.

French high school students were among the injured, according to the French prime minister.

Colleen Anderson, a spokeswoman for St. Thomas Hospital, said a woman died after a vehicle died after a vehicle hit pedestrians on Westminster Bridge. "There were people across the bridge. There were some with minor injuries, some catastrophic. Some had injuries they could walk away from or who have life-changing injuries," she said.

Sky News also reported a woman was pulled alive from River Thames.

It seems the media wants to see if this is connected to ISIS, rather than seeing if it's connected to Islamic extremism.
