At Least 6 Killed Including Shooter at Nashville Christian Primary School

Covenant School, a private Christian institution for children up to 6th grade, was the scene of an active shooter this morning.

The Metro Nashville PD confirmed the shooter's death in a statement and the school is in the process of reunifying parents with their children.

"An active shooter event has taken place at Covenant School, Covenant Presbyterian Church, on Burton Hills Dr. The shooter was engaged by MNPD and is dead. Student reunification with parents is at Woodmont Baptist Church, 2100 Woodmont Blvd.," the initial statement by the department read.

The Nashville branch of the Bureau of Alcohol Tobacco and Firearms (ATF) has also deployed agents to assist the MNPD in responding to the attack.

Three students and three adults were killed, according to Vanderbilt Medical Center. The shooter was a female identified as a possible teenager, carrying two "assault-type rifles" and a handgun. [An assault-type rifle is any rifle that looks scary to people who know little to nothing about rifles.]

The female killed 3 students and 3 adults, all female, before being killed by police just prior to 10:30 a.m. local time.

According to police, the shooter entered the school through a side door, climbed the stairs to the second floor and began shooting.

The children were taken to Monroe Carell Jr. Children's Hospital at Vanderbilt with gunshot wounds and sadly, all three were pronounced dead after arrival. Three adult staff members were also pronounced dead following the shooting.

The shooter was eventually identified as a 28-year-old woman and a Nashville resident. Nashville police Chief John Drake said, "At one point she was a student at that school. There was a vehicle nearby that gave us a clue as to who she was.
