Before the echo of ripped paper dissipated from the halls of Congress, and dentures got back to the gums of where they belong; and before all the angry Democrats filed out of the impeachment trial of President Trump, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) filed cloture on more conservative judges than Flintstones has children's vitamins.
At present count, there are 191 judges put in place by this administration, making the U.S.'s judiciary more conservative than ever before.
The judges included Andrew Lynn Brasher to be U.S. Circuit Judge for the Eleventh Circuit, Joshua M. Kindred to be U.S. District Judge for the District of Alaska, Matthew Thomas Schelp to be U.S. District Judge for the Eastern District of Missouri, John Fitzgerald Kness to be U.S. District Judge for the Northern District of Illinois, and Philip M. Halpern to be U.S. District Judge for the Southern District of New York.
At present, the Senate is on track to confirm the 34th Circuit Court judge during Trump's presidency by next week and there are three more ready for floor action, which would give Trump about 20 percent of the Circuit Court seats in the country after just two years in office. At this rate, McConnell and Trump could leave few, if any, vacancies there for a potential Democratic president in 2021 and keep America from circling the bowl as the left would like to see.
Even more upsetting for Democrats, the GOP is also preparing to pull the trigger on the “nuclear option,” a move first put in place by former Democratic Senate Leader Harry Reid. This would change Senate rules once again with a simple majority to allow much quicker confirmation of lower court judges in the coming months.
The Trump administration now has 128 District Court vacancies to fill. Under current rules, if any senator demands a delay, it can take a long time to get them appointed. But if Republicans do the Harry Reid nuclear option, Trump could likely fill most of the appointments over the next 20 months.
President Obama was only able to appoint 55 Circuit Court judges in all his 8 years of dividing the country. Trump and the Senate has already appointed 50 in three years, and those that were appointed are seated for life and are all young.
Thank you Harry Reid.
