The Times has since scrambled to use the proper term "blackface" to avoid the embarrassment of partisanship.
Ironically, and really quite funny, Herring is among those who have called on Northam to resign after the discovery of a photo of someone in blackface on his 1984 medical school yearbook page.
The blackface incident occurred during a college party in 1980 and the revelation comes as the state’s embattled governor and lieutenant governor also find themselves embroiled in separate scandals.
In a lengthy statement on Wednesday, Herring, a Democrat of course, said he wore brown makeup and a wig in 1980 to look like a black rapper during a party as an undergraduate at the University of Virginia.
"In 1980, when I was a 19-year-old undergraduate in college, some friends suggested we attend a party dressed like rappers we listened to at the time, like Kurtis Blow, and perform a song,” Herring explained. “It sounds ridiculous even now writing it. But because of our ignorance and glib attitudes – and because we did not have an appreciation for the experiences and perspectives of others – we dressed up and put on wigs and brown makeup.”
Herring mansplained, "This was a onetime occurrence and I accept full responsibility for my conduct.”

Then he remembered what he did and how the internet is a treasure trove of ammunition for the leftist virtue signalers.
So since the left is totally unforgiving for any behavior that had ever taken place at any time in world history, it is possible that the next governor of Virginia will be the janitor at the Richmond Governor's Mansion.
Unless he ever moonwalked, wore blackface or was sexually inappropriate.
