The CIA has determined that Jamal Khashoggi's death last month came from the orders of Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman [aka: MBS]. So while he feigned surprise, he knew the story.
Khashoggi was murdered in the Saudi Consulate in Turkey. The CIA's conclusion came as a result of "an understanding of how Saudi Arabia works," rather than finding a "smoking gun," as it were.
In other words, you don't go to the Saudi Consulate anywhere in the world and kill anyone unless you have the orders from a guy named Mohammed.
An official said of the incident that the journalist's death "would not and could not have happened" if MBS wasn't connected to it. The murder had to have his blessings.
The information comes just one day after Foreign Minister Adel al-Jubeir insisted MBS had nothing to do with the murder of the Washington Post columnist's death.
"Absolutely, his royal highness the crown prince has nothing to do with this issue," he told the media.
'And snakes have hips,' he could have added, and it would have been just as true.
MBS "denied any knowledge" of the circumstances that led to Khashoggi's disappearance, President Trump told us.
"Just spoke with the Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia who totally denied any knowledge of what took place in their Turkish Consulate," Trump tweeted.
If it was totally, as opposed to partially, it must, therefore, be true.
News of the CIA's findings comes a day after the Treasury Department put sanctions on 17 Saudi government officials over Khashoggi's death.
Canada has decided not to sanction the Saudis at all. Eh?
The Saudis claim that 21 people are in custody and the country's top prosecutor revealed that he would seek the death penalty for five of them--so they'll be taking one for the team, it seems.
Originally, the Saudis claimed Khashoggi was accidentally killed in a fight against 15 guys. Maybe they figured we'd figure he was drunk and thought he could beat the crap out of 15 guys.
"Discussions between citizen Jamal Khashoggi and those who met him while he was in the Saudi Consulate in Istanbul led to a brawl and a physical altercation, which led to his death," the Saudi's attorney general lied.
